Take the Cake

My mother-in-law and I spent half a day at Take the Cake – a great little bakery in Guilford, CT. This was a silent auction prize my wife won for me at last year’s Taste of the Nation. We both had a great time – the staff was great to work with. Oh…, and you’re all invited to my house for dessert.

Getting Her Ears Pierced

As part of her 8th birthday, my daughter and a friend went to the mall to get their ears pierced. She did awesome! Nervous, at first, but wait ’till you see the smile when she looks in the mirror.

Dirty Girls

As the photographer in the family, I’m usually the one holding the camera and taking the pictures. This would explain when there are very few pictures with me actually in them. I’m also responsible for moving all the digital photos from our cameras to our computers, so I’m pretty much aware of every image being produced in our household.
It’s rare that I come across a picture that my wife took while I was out, but I stumbled upon this gem the other day while offloading some pictures I took at a wedding over the weekend. Now…, I remember a day when I came home from work and the girls told me they had been playing in some mud in the backyard – and I remember grumbling to myself when I saw the size of the mud pit they had created knowing how hard it was going to be to regrow the grass – but I had no idea there was photographic evidence of the day’s activities. It’s hard to stay mad about some mud when you look at these two…

We just vacationed in Angola – which is just outside of Buffalo, NY – at my Aunt and Uncle’s who have a house right on Lake Erie. If you’re never seen one of the Great Lakes, they’re HUGE. You can’t really see the other side and if someone told you you were looking at an ocean, you’d probably believe them. We spent a week with my cousin, his wife and their two daughters. Apparently, we’re fond of throwing rocks in the water.

Cheated on Father’s Day?

I just read this article on CNN.com in which a dad complains about his feeling cheated when it comes to gifts on Father’s Day. He compares his gifts to an afterthought, then describes the lavish and meaningful gift he got his wife for Mother’s Day. He then goes on to talk about his “worst nightmare” coming true – when he actually has to watch his children…, for one whole weekend…, by himself!!!!
Boo, hoo. Cry me a river, dude. If it takes your wife having surgery to get you to lift a finger in the parenting department at home, I say you deserve those boxer shorts. In fact, I’ve got a pair for you right here. I may even wash them before I send them to you.
