As much as my wife hates it (and I understand why she hates it), I can’t help but love the look on my daughters’ faces when they’re jumping on our bed.

Here’s a cute pic from the other day. We participated in the JDRF Walk to Find A Cure, and they have fun things for the kids to do. Jamie the Gentle Clown did an awesome job, don’t you think?!

I’m not sure why its taken me this long to write about this. Maybe I didn’t want to jinks it? Whatever the case may be, I’m thrilled to say that Grace has been almost 100% oral fed during the day for about two weeks now. We’ve only have to use the tube a couple of times. Once she was consistenly drinking enough formula on her own, the feeding specialists in New Jersey and her gastroenterologist both told us to try and stop using the tube during the day. So far, she’s doing great. Meal times take a little longer now – it sometimes takes her a half-hour to eat and drink about 4oz of food – but it’s worth it to not have to use the tube. Of course, we make a big deal of it every time she finishes eating. “Noooooooo tubie!” we both shout. Not having to use the tube has actually been a real incentive for her. She loves it.

She’s still on the feeding pump overnight, but we’ve dropped the rate on that feed as well. Her endorcynologist said that we need to come off that real slow to give her body time to adjust and to monitor her blood sugar levels, which still may cause a problem. Still…, very exciting news.

Each month, Quinn’s class is picking an “Animal of the Month.” Each child is supposed to find something out about this animal and do some sort of project or presentation to share with the class. Last month’s animal was “fish,” so I thought…, if you want to learn about fish, go fishing. We didn’t catch anything, but we have a nice time and Quinn learned a lot. I remember my dad taking me fishing when I was a kid – it felt great to be able to do the same thing with my daughter. I hope she remembers it forever as well.

Did I mention it was a Disco Party?!

More from Quinn’s birthday…, which is really more like a birth”week.”
