Does anyone know if the Catholic church will perfom an exorcism on a 5-year-old? I’m fairly certain that my daughter is posessed by the devil himself. For no reason whatsoever, she’ll suddenly turn pure evil – without warning or provocation. This morning was one of those times. We all got up. We had breakfast. I got them dressed for Church, and even let them play outside with the water guns they got at a birthday party yesterday before leaving. Then it happened. Her head might as well have spun around while spewing pea soup. We managed to get her in the car, but she was so bad at church that we had to leave before communion. This, despite the warning that if she didn’t behave, she was going to spend the rest of the day in her room – and not go to her grandma’s house to celebrate her aunt’s birthday. She just came out crying, asking when she could come out of her room. “Tomorrow,” I said…, after Father Karras has finished his work.

Quinn’s been waking us up at night again. Two or three times a night, we’ll hear her doorknob squeek and the next thing we know, she’s standing ourside our door saying, “Mommy. Daddy. I miss you.” Her voice is almost trembling as she says it. It’s been going on for almost a month now.

At first we just kept telling her to go back to bed. After a few weeks of it, however, it became annoying – neither of us was getting any sleep. We would all be exhausted and cranky all day long because of the interruptions. We were practically yelling at her in the middle of the night to go back to bed. Then we come to find out that apparently she’s worried that we’re going to die – at least that’s what she’s telling us. This, of course, made us feel terrible for yelling at her, so now we’re trying a different approach and letter her get into bed with us for a few minutes. This seems to works. She’ll fall asleep with us for a short while, then go back to her room and sleep through the rest of the night.

I’m not sure what’s bothering her or why she’s suddenly worried about us dying. My wife’s pretty scared of dying…, can this sort of thing be passed on genetically?

The two girls I work with both told me that when they were young, they both went through the same thing. At one point in their lives, they both were afraid to leave their parents’ side because they thought they would never see them again. I guess that makes me feel a little better, but I can’t help but feel bad for my five-year-old…, someone that young just shouldn’t be worrying about those kinds of things.

Here’s another story that ABC’s 20/20 did on stay-at-home dads. The figures surprised me…, I guess I thought there were more of us.

Over a year ago, I started listen to a podcast produced by a Catholic priest from the Netherlands. The show is called The Daily Breakfast, and it covers topics ranging from world news, to TV & movies, to video games. It also includes segments such as “The Peculiar Bunch,” in which you find out, “everything you always wanted to know about Catholics, but were afraid to ask.” The show is not overly religious, but the host does often connect themes in the stories he’s covering to Christian themes.

Well, in a little over a year’s time, what started as a single priest podcasting from the Netherlands, has grown into a multi-national corporation – SQPN – that now has over 20 podcasts and several video podcasts. When they first started talking about getting into video production and how they wanted it to look as professional as possible, I emailed Fr. Roderick and Greg & Jennifer of The Rosary Army (the CEO, COO and CFO of SQPN) and told them that if they ever needed some animation work done, I would be happy to help. I’m always looking to get involved in projects that allow me a little more creative freedom then what I’m able to do at the television station I work at, which is very formatted. I’m also drawn to doing work for charitable organizations that have meaning to me, which is why I also got involved with the JDRF and produced a couple of videos for them.

In any case, their flagship video podcast – That Catholic Show – is extremely well produced and is getting great reviews on iTunes and YouTube. They just released their 2nd episode and together, the first two shows have been been viewed almost 10,000 time on YouTube alone. I created the show open, as well as the two closing animations. I’m not trying to push my religion on anyone here – I’m just proud of the work we’ve done. If it’s something that interests you…, check it out.

ABC News did a story on Salary.com’s estimation that if stay-at-home mom’s were to get paid for they work they do, their salaries would be $138,646!!! Boy…, I wish I were pulling in that kind of money. I would encourage all of your stay-at-home dads out there to head on over to ABCNews.com and chime in…

I made the switch. It wasn’t 100% seamless…, but then again, these things never are. The good thing is I was able to move the database and get it working in the new location. I’m not sure I’m totally happy with my new hosts – jury’s still out on that one. My old provider is going to keep my files on his server in case I decide to change my mind. He even said they would give me 3 free months and up my storage space by 50MB if I come back…, but even at that price and that amount of space, they still can’t touch the deal I’m getting here. Still, by nature I’m a very loyal person and I feel bad about leaving them after 10 years.
