Demon Child
Does anyone know if the Catholic church will perfom an exorcism on a 5-year-old? I’m fairly certain that my daughter is posessed by the devil himself. For no reason whatsoever, she’ll suddenly turn pure evil – without warning or provocation. This morning was one of those times. We all got up. We had breakfast. I got them dressed for Church, and even let them play outside with the water guns they got at a birthday party yesterday before leaving. Then it happened. Her head might as well have spun around while spewing pea soup. We managed to get her in the car, but she was so bad at church that we had to leave before communion. This, despite the warning that if she didn’t behave, she was going to spend the rest of the day in her room – and not go to her grandma’s house to celebrate her aunt’s birthday. She just came out crying, asking when she could come out of her room. “Tomorrow,” I said…, after Father Karras has finished his work.

The demon comes out here sometimes too, and I’m not buying into the “she’s tired” or “she’s hungry” excuses anymore. It’s the same also that when we punish her the fits and crying get even worse. I may be wrong, but I thought that by five they should be able to control themselves a little better.
Maybe we can get a package deal on a double exorcism.
Yea…, we’re getting tired of the “I’m tired” excuse too. I can’t understand why she can’t control herself by this point either?!

Beecause she’s 5 Chris. From your blog I gather that Quinn is a bright, perceptive, vocal little girl who may be considered mature for her age. When you have kids like this you tend to forget some times that they are still little kids and they have emotional spurts just like growth spurts.
There are always possibilities of other bases for what seems like suddenly different behavior, but with kids Occam’s Razor is usually the way to go . Occam’s Razor is a rule of logic which says “given multiple possibilities, the simplest one is usually right.” In this case, the simplest rationale for Quinn’s devlish behavior is that (1) she is 5; (2) and because little kids have no control over their lives sometimes they say “Well, I may not be able to decide when I go to bed or what I eat or if I have to be nice to Grace, but at least I can drive mom and dad crazy!”
The usual “A” response is to remain calm, impose discipline without letting on that she is driving you nuts, and then this too shall pass – eventually!
