2 Teeth in 12 Hours
Filed Under Daddy Posts | 1 Comment
Teeth are falling around here almost as fast as George Bush’s approval rating. Quinn’s 7th tooth fell out at school and 12 hours later, Grace lost her 1st tooth. Unlike her older sister’s, however, Grace’s might have had a little help. She and I were rolling a small, rubber ball back and forth on the hardwood floor the other day. We started bouncing it back and forth, when one of my bounces hit her in the mouth. The ball’s pretty soft and I didn’t throw it that hard, but she started crying and I saw blood around one of her front teeth. As I was wiping the blood off her lip and gums, I touched the tooth and couldn’t believe how wiggly it was. I’m convinced it must have already been loose before the ball hit her, but I’m sure she’ll forever remember how daddy knocked her front tooth out!
Ruthie the Tooth Fairy was good to both of them – $1 for Quinn and $5 for Grace since it was her 1st tooth…, although with gas prices as high as they are, you think she would have kept a little for herself for the trip home.
She also wrote them very nice notes answering all the questions they had for her, and now I have two girls who look like seasoned NHL players.

Rainforest Fractured Fairy Tale
Filed Under Daddy Posts | 1 Comment
Quinn’s class and one of the 2-3 I.D. classes at her elementary school have been studying the rainforest for a couple of months. Not only did they learn about all the different plants and animals that live in this habitat, they learned about all the deforestation that’s threatening this precious natural recourse. The kids got very into the subject matter and were upset to learn that the rainforest is disappearing at an alarming rate. They wrote letters to local elected officials, held a “Walk for the Rainforest” and raised over $1,000 to adopt and preserve 22 acres of South American rainforest, and wrote a fractured fairy tale about the rainforest and the creatures that live there. Here, in her stage debut, is one of Quinn’s speaking parts from the almost hour-long play. Mom and dad were very proud at how confident and articulate she was, as well as with her activism.

Art Exhibit

Quinn had a painting of hers chosen to hang in a district-wide art show last week. Held at the High School, it featured student work from grades K-12 in all different mediums. Unfortunately, I couldn’t go – and I really wish I could have been there. I would have loved to have seen her face when she saw her self-portrait hanging on the wall, and I would be very interested in see what other kids in North Haven were capable of. I bet there was some great stuff there. I had the wife take a photo – of course. So what do you think…, pretty good likeness, huh?
