We had a jam-packed weekend of birthday activities, including a visit with relatives, a gymnastics party for friends, and dinner at a Japanese restaurant (Quinn’s choice). It’s the first birthday we’ve ever done outside of our house, and it was well worth the money we spent. The girls (and boys) had such a good time, and my daughter’s smile lit up the gym. What a great day.

Keeping our annual tradition alive, we took the girls apple picking last week. The weather was perfect and the apples tasted great. There’s nothing like biting into a sweet, juicy Macintosh picked right off the tree! My wife and I have gone ever year since we settled in CT…, something I hope we can do with the girls every year, and something I hope they continue to do with their own families some day.

Wow…, it’s been a couple of weeks since I posted anything. Having trouble finding the time at the moment. We’re adjusting to a new work & school schedule, which includes a lot of homework and a few after-school activities. Doesn’t sound like much, but it’s eating up all of our free time between the end of work and bedtime. After that, I’m just too tired. I had a conversation with a bunch of parents yesterday (the kids had a half day) and they were all saying the same thing. The difference in the amount of homework between 1st and 2nd grade surprised us all!

When we heard that Britney Spears was opening at the MTV VMA’s, we couldn’t help ourselves and we had to watch – what with her horrendous performance at last year’s award show. Maybe we’re just getting old, but we sat through the first 15 minutes, and it was barely watchable. The host was a joke and I wanted to slap most of the “performers” they were showing in the audience. Do kids today even still watch MTV? I used to watch it all the time, but I was in elementary school when it launched and it was a BIG deal back then. Tonight, we actually had to use the guide on the TV just to find it – not a channel we’ve committed to memory. Not even a channel I’ve watched in the past 15 years.

So we flipped over to Food Network, and weren’t we surprised when I saw a former teammate on Iron Chef America!! How cool is that?!

***UPDATE: Here’s a review of the awards show, if you’re interested.

This one’s just to prove that my kids actually had a good time on the rides too. Check ‘em out as they ride Barn Stormer, a roller coaster in the kids section of the Magic Kingdom. Watch as Grace’s face changes the moment the coaster reaches the crest of the hill!
