Old & Grumpy at 37
Filed Under Daddy Posts | 2 Comments
Sometimes I feel like an 80-year-old man trapped in a 37-year-old body. I grumble and complain about a lot of things – lazy people who don’t think for themselves or try to problem solve; bad parenting that has resulted in spoiled, disrespectful children; educators who have to tip-toe around rotten students who have no place in a classroom rather than discipline them; general stupidity. I have become the stereotypical “grumpy old man” who starts every sentence with, “When I was a kid…,” or “Back in my day….” I’m finally coming around to the realization that common sense really isn’t that common.
I watch the news and listen to so-called “experts” with money-saving tips for all of us living in this struggling economy, or five things you can do to lose weight and guess what…, they’re all so completely obvious that I get angry that people actually need to be reminded of them. What happened to people having to own up to their mistakes and accept responsibility for their own actions?
I found this clip from Late Night with Conan O’Brien that made me feel a little better. Well…, at least it made me laugh.

“Now Or Never”

I agree 100% with this excerpt from Jack Cafferty’s new book, “Now Or Never.” Maybe it should be required reading to parents today.

Monkeying Around

My daughter’s class had a famous person “press conference,” where they all had to dress up and give an oral report on a famous person of their choosing. My daughter chose Jane Goodall – who lived with and studied chimpanzees in their natural habitat. She did an amazing job…, and even I got to take part in the presentation.

Yale Center for British Art Field Trip
Filed Under Daddy Posts | 1 Comment
My daughters both went on a field trip to the Yale Center for British Art to see – in person – some of the works of art they’ve been reading about in class. I let my older daughter take my video camera and she managed to sneak a quick shot of one of the exhibits despite being told that cameras were not permitted. I was especially proud of her when – in true videoblogger fashion – she turned the camera around and gave a quick description of where she was. Like father, like daughter I guess. ![]()
